    1. Wonderful debut by a great new voice in historical western romance. From the first sentence, Angel and Rane are intriguing and multidimensional. The characters' dialogue sings, and Ms. Matthews' turns of phrase are delightful. (Several times I caught myself thinking, "Gee, I wish I'd written that.") Secondary characters are as well developed as the hero and heroine. The story moves right along, never once bogging down in maudlin sentimentality or repetition, and there's no trace of the dreaded " [...]

    2. A lot of things about Angel in the Rain reminded me of Ellen O'Connell books, and she is probably my favorite western romance author right now, so that means I recommend this book for her fans. Given there appear to be some reviews of Angel in the Rain as a Devon Matthews paperback back in 2007, perhaps that should be the other way around. Regardless, Matthews and O'Connell share the following themes: the slightly bad man with a strong moral center, the young girl full of spit and vinegar who lo [...]

    3. DNF at 26%.I'm having a hard time getting through this one. If I were kidnapped, I would not spend most of my time noticing how handsome my kidnapper was, let alone imaging him naked. Just no. I'm sure the author means to humanize the kidnapper by giving him a really sad backstory, but at 25% I'm having a bad case of "I just don't care." Neither of the MCs is compelling or worth any interest at this point. I've read almost everything by my favourite historical western author, Kaki Warner, and wa [...]

    5. Exciting western.Gunslinger seeking truth, kidnapping, crazy neighbour & suitor, hoyden returned from finishing school, a couple of great escapes & fancy gun play. All great elements to keep me entertained.
