    1. This review contains significant spoilers, and as the story is about (at least in part) abuse within BDSM relationships, it also discusses trauma and shares some details. This book felt like it was in battle with itself, split between two goals: 1. It wanted to be a D/s romance of the fantasy sort, where a novice submissive can walk into her very first munch and meet the Dominant of her dreams, they are perfectly kink compatible, and they find love together after trying to keep it casual and play [...]

    2. Wow. Where do I begin? Let me start by saying that Teresa Noelle Roberts' writing skills are fantastic. I was riveted by the story from page one and the characters' experiences are described with a poetic quality that really captured me at times. Selene is the perfect newbie submissive, as far as I'm concerned anyway. Headstrong, open-minded, and enjoys a solid flogging more than she feels she should. Nick… well, let me just say that when I'm not writing, I'm scouring Jamaica Plain trying to f [...]

    3. Alyn‘s review posted on Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews5 starsOK admit it, we all have our little fantasies that involve a lot of kink. What many of us fail to do is take the step to live out those fantasies for real and enjoy the carnal pleasures we so desire. In “Knowing the Ropes” Teresa Noelle Roberts paints a beautiful picture of a woman who is not afraid to take that step towards fulfilling her most intimate needs and darkest desires with a man who can show her the pleasure of pain.Sel [...]

    4. e-book provided by NightOwlSelene just moved from a big southern town to a small Boston town to continue her work and to get over a relationship. She also wanted to look into more of a doom/slave relationship because she finally realize that she is a submissiveNick is a doom and every one of his friends in the lifestyle knows it. He just ended a doom/sub relationship himself and is only looking to play and not have anything serious. He never thought that by meeting Selene that he would fall in l [...]

    5. 2.5 starsThe story idea is ambitious, so I'll give the author credit for that by rounding up, but it didn't really work for me as a whole. Aside from nitpicky things, I think the biggest problem is that I didn't believe in Selene and Nick's romance. 1) They seemed to spend more time thinking about their own reactions than each others' (which seems weird in a bdsm-themed story) and their interactions all seemed to be based on sex -- you'd think two people with IT backgrounds would have more to bo [...]

    6. Despite the content I was bored. The story seemed to drag on and not be that well. I didn't feel as if it flowed. However I adored Selene, she was smart, witty and contagious for me.

    7. Graduate school student Selene Daniels meets BDSM special guest speaker Alison from the Boston Kinksters Union and discovers a peaked curiosity to find out more. So Selene shows up at a meet-and-greet luncheon that will change the course of her life. There she meets not only a newbie sub and an arrogant dom, she also meets sexy confident and respectful dom Nick McCutcheon. Together they learn about each other and explore the BDSM lifestyle and emerge in a healthy kinky relationship. To avoid the [...]

    8. Selene Daniels is a trained domestic abuse counselor. Yet she also has an interest in being sexually dominated, a paradox that she had not fully explored until she meets Nick McCutcheon, a computer geek whose urge to dominate matches Selene's need to submit. What follows is a compelling story that explores the psychological and social aspects of the BDSM subcuture in a way that makes us care about the characters and hope they can overcome barriers to their happiness. The novel shows us the peril [...]

    9. Not your typical new female sub meets experienced male Dom. This story feels more real, with real-life characters. No magic perfect BDSM club, no psychic Dom to anticipate his sub’s every move, no cartoon villain. Instead, there are characters who feel real, incredibly hot sex scenes and people who make mistakes, talk about them and move on. I was impressed by this book. Looking forward to reading more by Ms. Roberts.Bought from kobo.
