    1. Really 4.5 stars, but I rounded up.A very good mystery with a hilarious ghost and an assorted crew of fun firefighters In Hot Water was, like the other books in this series, a winner!Stella and Eric both showed some growth in this book. Before, Eric was very protective as Stella, and there were hints that, even though he was a ghost, he was falling for Stella. Though those hints are still there, Eric is less protective of Stella in this book, when it comes to her relationships. John is again bac [...]

    2. Dollycas’s ThoughtsI have to start out by saying that Joyce and Jim Lavene are some of my absolute favorite storytellers but they did it again!! This story ends with another cliffhanger!! That last page was a killer!! Oh my stars!!Okay well let’s talk about In Hot Water. Stella has decided to make Sweet Pepper her home but her actual home, Chief Eric Gamlyn’s cabin, has been purchased out from under her and the new owner plans to demolish the place. What will happen to Eric’s ghost if hi [...]

    3. openbooksociety/article/inBrought to you by OBS reviewer Heidin Hot Water picks up exactly where the previous installment in the series, Playing with Fire left off. Bob Floyd, scared after Stella threatened to send Eric’s ghost after him, has purchased the land Eric’s cabin is on and has brought a demolition crew to destroy it and Eric’s ghost once and for all! With the help from some of her friends and a bulldozer that suddenly stops at the cabin’s steps, she is able to hold Bob off. Bu [...]

    4. This is the third book in the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade Mystery series. Stella Griffin has finally decided to take on the full time position of Sweet Pepper fire chief but during her last trip home to Chicago, her cabin was sold to councilman Bob Floyd, who is now insisting on bulldozing the property. Why? Because with rumors of the cabin being haunted by former fire chief, Eric Gamlyn, Bob was afraid of the ghost after Stella threatened to have Eric get him. Bob is convinced that the only way t [...]

    5. Amid sirens screaming the Sweet Pepper Volunteer Fire Brigade arrive at the house to hear an explosion and watch the fire break out and were unable to recused the occupant. The next day Stella meets with the state arson inspector they started an investigation which is suddenly table. Bob Lloyd is still trying to destroy the cabin as he feels Eric will be gone. Eric learns he can go places as long as Stella has his sheriff's badge. Stella must learned what is happening before someone MURDER her. [...]

    6. 3.5 stars. I love the characters, and the setting and the mysteries are good. But these author-team needs a better editor to smooth out the 3rd person POV, catch the missing words, and polish the plotting. I'm definitely in for the next book though - I'm in it for Eric.

    7. Fire Chief Stella Griffin is just starting to settle into her new position in Sweet Pepper, Tennessee. She’s excited and happy until a local resident purchases her cabin and is ready to tear it down. The cabin belonged to the original Sweet Pepper Fire Chief Eric Gamlyn and he still maintains his residence there, even though he’s been dead for a very long time. Stella didn’t think she believed in ghosts until she met Eric and now has a ghost for a roommate. Stella fears for Eric’s existe [...]

    8. This book was on fire!J. J. Cook aka husband and wife writing team Joyce & Jim Lavene, are born authors. Their writing is face paced, fun, adventurous, and just plain wonderful. I am a big fan of the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade Mystery series. Each title is better than the one before, as is proven with IN HOT WATER. The action started on page one and never slowed down. Even the last sentence left me breathless! This book picks up exactly where PLAYING WITH FIRE left off. Fire Chief Stella Griff [...]

    9. J.J. Cook ratchets up the tension in "In Hot Water," placing Eric Gamlyn's very existence in jeopardy. This series just keeps getting better and better for me. One one level, there is the personal aspect of Stella and Eric's relationship where she fears that his ghost will cease to existd where he fears she will date. On the other hand, there is murder and arson. It's not easy for Stella when she goes head-to-head against political bigwigs and local law enforcement. There is a certain innocence [...]

    10. I loved this mystery. Fast paced with interesting characters this was a very entertaining read. Stella Griffin, the main character is the full time fire chief of Sweet Pepper, Tenn. She lives in the cabin that was previously occupied by Eric Gamlyn, the former chief who is deceased. He is now a ghost who haunts the cabin and Stella is one of the very few who can see him and talk with him. This paranormal aspect of this book adds unexpected humor. When ex-state rep, Barney Falk is found dead in h [...]

    11. This series is a favorite of mine, so I'm calling this 4.5 stars. While I like Stella and some of the other characters, the draw for me is Eric, the ghost. He feels more alive to me than many of the other characters. Maybe a few inconsistencies here and there in this one, but I enjoy the books so much I'm willing to overlook a lot! Looking forward to the possibility of another ghost or 2. The ending REALLY left you hanging and am anxious to see what happens! RECOMMEND!

    12. In Hot Water is a must read. If you started the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade series, you won't be disappointed. This book ended with what I was fearing throughout the whole book, and I just can't wait for the next book! I love Stella and Eric and can't wait to see what is in store for them, their relationship, and the brigade. Looking forward to being back in Sweet Pepper. Well done, loved it!

    13. Stella continues to be a tough character. How soon is the next book? I'm left hanging for an answer.

    14. In Hot Water by J. J. Cook is the third book in the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade series. This book, as well as the first two, is a great read. Stella has decided to stay in Sweet Pepper as the fire chief permanently and now she has a fight on her hands trying to save the cabin where she lives. The same cabin that belonged to the old fire chief, Eric Gamlyn, who is residing there as a ghost. Few people know that Eric is still around as a ghost, and even fewer people can see him. Stella is one of the [...]

    15. In Hot Water is Book 3 in the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade series. I love this series. The store revolves around the new fire chief Stella who is living in the house of the former and most definitely deceased fire chief Eric Gamlyn. When a fire at Barney Falk's home, who is a local politician, results in Barney's death and a possible drug connection. Stella is part of the arson investigation and uncovers what she thinks might be cocaine. This is just the start of the twists and turns in this book. [...]

    16. In Hot Water is the third book in the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade series. This series in one of my favorite cozy paranormal mystery series. What I like about this series is the character of Fire Chief Stella Griffin. She has been instrumental in starting and training a crack volunteer fire department. She is a strong character that doesn't back down in regards to ethic issues and if she has strong beliefs about what should be done. She shares a cabin with deceased fire chief Eric Gamlyn who is now a [...]

    17. Great Series! This is a great series! This is the third book in the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade Series by J.J. Cook. This book can be read as a standalone, but once you read it, you will want to read the others so you might as well read them from the beginning. Stella is now the full time fire chief of the Sweet Pepper fire brigade and should be excited. The problem is the town just sold the cabin she is living in. The new owner wants to tear down the cabin because he is afraid of Stella’s roomma [...]

    18. Every one gets better! Just when I think they couldn't write a better book, they prove me wrong. Sweet Pepper, Tennessee, how I long to be able to live in a small, friendly town. The 3rd book in the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade series, is well worth your time. If by now you haven't fallen in love with Stella and the rest of the residents (that includes Captain Eric also), I feel very sorry for you. I have trouble waiting to discover what is around the next turn in the road. Bulldozers, dirty politi [...]

    19. In Hot Water, the third book in the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade mystery series by J.J. Cook, is a fantastic read. Stella Griffin is now the full time fire chief in Sweet Pepper but her troubles are only beginning. She’s in danger of losing the home she shares with Eric, the former Sweet Pepper Fire Chief. Eric is a ghost who was murdered years before and “lives” in and is tied to the cabin he built. Second, a suspicious house fire and death leads to kidnappings, beatings and serious threats. [...]

    20. Entertaining and interesting. I was drawn to the female fire chief, but uncertain as to the inclusion of a ghost. The ghost adds an unusual dimension to the tale. As this was the third in the series, I am eager to go back in time to read the first two. I am fan of their Biscuit Truck series and look forward to reading more from J.J. Cook or books under their other author names.

    21. I still really like this series. I am not sure about all the male "suitors" introduced in this one but for now I will just go with it. Can't wait to see what happens in the next one after that ending!

    22. I love reading a mystery with a ghost involved & I especially love Eric! Also, since I'm a volunteer Firefighter/EMT, I love the firefighting aspect of this series. I hope there are many more books to come!

    23. A great third book in this series. A few editing inconsistencies, but they didn't interfere with the story. Looking forward to the next book!

    24. I have flown through the first three books of this series. I'll keep an eye out for number four when it hits the stands. Fun cozy series. Love the ghost. Wish I had one like him.

    25. I enjoyed this one cause Eric was able to leave his cabin a little bit more. I'm worried about him losing his cabin. I think it is funny that Tagger can see him also. Great read!

    26. Somehow I missed the words 'ghostly roommate' in the blurb when I put in to win this book from (and win I did but it doesn't influence my opinion) so I was surprised to see a ghost. I love ghosts so it was a pleasant surprise. I have to say I didn't read book one or two so I was missing a little but not much (which is the great thing about mystery series) background info.It opens with a bang. Stella, the newish fire chief of Sweet Pepper TN, is facing off with Bob Floyd over the cabin she lives [...]

    27. Stella Griffin, the new Fire Chief in Sweet Pepper, Tennessee, gets more than she bargained for as a fire breaks out in the "uppity" part of town. In the aftermath, Barney Falk, a former state representative, is found dead and all signs point to arson. Stella pulls on her fire chief pants and starts investigating things. Suspicions arise as clues continue to point to murder. While all of this is happening, Stella is also fighting to keep her cabin from being torn down by a local resident. There' [...]
