    1. Beautiful and poignant sequel--or companion book--to Tallis' Third Tune, this time from the side of the man in the love story, Quinn Radcliffe. I loved Quinn in 'Tallis,' and even more in this one. He suffers a deep ongoing trauma most people didn't acknowledge existed in the mid-20th-century (view spoiler)[, that of being sexually abused by his father, an issue that's clear enough in the book but not disturbingly graphic in its description, for which I'm grateful (hide spoiler)]. The resulting [...]

    2. If you loved Ms Ekstrom’s Tallis’ Third Tune, as much as I did, you are in for a treat with her latest novel, Scarborough. Once again the reader encounter’s the star-crossed lovers, Alice and Quinn, the curiosity shop with historical figures popping in and out, and wonderful scenes from York and Scarborough. This time, however, we hear the story from Quinn’s point of view. The author’s superb writing takes us into the mind of a brilliant, talented, tortured young man. His inability to [...]

    3. Ellen Ekstrom has done it again. She's woven a rich tapestry of elegant descriptions. It's pretty well known if you look at any of my reviews that I find many descriptions tedious, but that is not so with the writing found in this novel, nor the first novel in the series. The description is added in the right places to add a richness to the book, yet doesn't make the reader feel as though they aren't allowed to use their imagination. The characters, ah, yes. I fell in love with Quinn in Tallis, [...]

    4. Scarborough is the next book in the Midwinter Sonata by Ellen l. Ekstrom. The first book is Tallis' Third Tune and I'd highly urge you to read that one before you read this one. That's not to say this book can't stand alone , it can. But you will get the full experience reading the first one, first.Scarborough is Quinn's side of things. In Tallis' Third Tune, the reader was given Alice's take on things. But things aren't always as they seem and in Scarborough, we get a rounder look at everything [...]
