    1. If only this was the "highly readable" and "most engaging and attractive account of what it was like to be an artist in Paris in its heyday" the book jacket promised it to be. The first third of the book is devoted to a rather dry discussion of artists living in Paris at the time; it primarily describes who studied under who, and who exhibited at which gallery, competition, etc. Not really the stuff of meaty, satisfying art reading. Instead, two thirds of these 248 pages serve as a sort of walki [...]
