    1. MORE THAN JUST "DIRT"I'm a rock fan and a Poison fan. But most of all, I'm a book fan. I love to read and I love a good story. That's why I LOVED this one! "A Shot of Poison" offers an alternative to the typical, tired, "same old" trailer trash groupie/cocaine stories that fill most other rock books. Author Christopher Long's personal accounts as a Poison insider takes the reader from his first encounters with the band in the late 80s to recording sessions and personal touring experiences in the [...]

    2. I like rating system. Three stars, according to rating standards, simply means: I liked this book. And I did. Mostly. In the interest of full disclosure, I purchased this book at a book signing where I met the author and found him to be engaging and gracious. Could that have skewed my opinion? It's possible. I'm human.First, let me express my appreciation for the big font. Because, seriously - most of us interested in reading about hair bands from the 80's are sporting bifocals. I read this boo [...]

    3. This book was for me, a blast from the past. Having lived my life around the "rock star scene" since the age of 15, nothing I read really surprised mech.I expected to find out that every guy in Poison could be an asshole on any given day but also that each one had very very endearing points. I think some people: the die hard "My favorite band is ultimate perfection in every way" crowd, may actually be offended by the God's honest truth the writer spouts.Does he talk smack? Well yeah, he does. Bu [...]

    4. While it was nice to get a behind-the-scenes look at my favorite band of the 80's, a commenter on got it right: The best part of this book is the cover. In this case, if you judged this book by its cover you'd expect to hear some really strange stories of the band terrorizing the Sunset Strip during their heyday. You would be dead wrong and probably unlikely to make that judge a book by its cover mistake again. This book covers Poison's REUNION tour. The tours that happened in the late 2000's a [...]

    5. This was an entertaining read from beginning to end. In its forthright honesty, this story is more than just a tell-all. It is one man's truthful experience of life on the road with an 80s hairband. As the story unfolds, it breaks down the glorified barriers surrounding the tour lifestyle and shows that it has a human and sometimes dark side to it as well. But it also conveys a skillfully written, easy-to-read story with touches of well-crafted humor throughout. Whether you are a diehard or casu [...]

    6. Kind of a waste of time. The author was a so-called "insider" for only a couple of years, and not during the band's tumultuous heyday. The better part of the story concerns Bret Michaels' and Bobby Dall's clashing egos, and efforts by C.C. DeVille and Rikki Rockett to stay out of the way. Not much to see here. Don't waste your time unless you're a die-hard Poison fan, and even then you'll probably be disappointed. This is not the complete history of the band you're most likely looking for.
